GP Earnings

Publication of GP Net Earnings 2017/18

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (eg average pay) for GP's working to deliver NHS services to each practice.

The average pay for GP's working at Blackthorn Medical Centre in the last financial work was £46,901 before tax and national insurance. This is for 6 part time Gp's and 1 locum GP who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.

Involve

We have a charity called Involve available in the surgery to talk to from time to time.  Their aim is to improve the livers of carers, bring the elderly together and to improve the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged, marginalised or vulnerable individuals.  Over the next few months Involve will be working with us here at Blackthorn to bring our patients together in volunteering opportunities such as volunteer driver, fundraiser, admin office volunteer, falls prevention and many other possibilities.  They also organise events for people such as various carers groups, sewing and knitting groups, friendship cirlcles and arrange outings for the elderly.  Involve also offers affordable home services for those needing help such as cleaning, gardening and DIY tasks.

If you are interested in any of the above please visit Involve website or contact Involve directly at office@involvekent.org.uk

They will be available in the surgery on Tuesday 27th February, Tuesday 27th March, Tuesday 24th April, Tuesday 29th May and Tuesday 26th June.  Please drop in and chat to them.

We are very pleased to announce that we have achieved a result of GOOD across the board during our last CQC inspection.

SHINGLES VACCINATION

Shingles Vaccination - Patients Aged 70, 71, 72, 78 and 79

Patients in the eligible catergories will be contacted and offered an appointment.

Shingles is a common, painful skin disease. Shingles can be very painful and uncomfortable.  Some people are left with pain long after the initial rash has healed.

If you wish to have the Shingles Vaccination and you are in the detailed age groups please make an appointment with our Practice Nurses to have this done.

Shingles vaccination is a single injection and you will only need to have this once.  Having the vaccination is expected to reduce your risk of getting shingles.  If you do get shingles you symptoms may be milder and the illness shorter.

CHILDRENS FLU VACCINATION

New Patient Registrations

Blackthorn Medical Centre is currently not accepting patient registrations.  Our books are open but full which means we will review the situation on a weekly basis.  We will be taking a list of names for people who are waiting to register with us.

On occasion we may restrict taking new registrations when we are at capacity and our

high workload means we do not have the resources to safely look after more patients.

We review our list size regularly and depending on our registered list size at that time may then accept new registrations on a first come first served basis or restrict new registrations to babies born to mothers registered at the practice or to people living in the same household as a registered patient.

We do appreciate how frustrating it must be for you when you are trying to register with us and we are unable to accommodate this.  Unfortunately, we cannot accept everyone who would like to register and at present we have a limit on the number of patients that we feel we can safely look after.

Our list size is reviewed regularly so please telephone reception to see if we are currently accepting patients.

PATIENT DNA''s (Did Not Attend)

With more and more pressure on our services and patients feeding back to us about the time it takes to be able to book a routine appointment we would like to make you aware of the following facts:

The number of patients who do not cancel booked GP appointments is being monitored and the results are in our monthly newsletter.

Many hours are wasted each week by patients not cancelling their appointments and these could be given to someone else.

Please remember to cancel your appointment if you no longer require it:  this allows us to use the time to benefit other patients and reduces the waste of previous NHS resources.  You can telephone the surgery to cancel your appointment or cancel routine GP appointments via Online Services.

Please ask at Reception for more information for registering to use our Online Services for routine GP Appointments and authorised Repeat Prescriptions.

Thank you - your help and support is much appreciated.

Patient Choice Of GP Practice

From January 2015 all Practices in England have been free to register new patients who live outside of their practice boundary.  However, this is a voluntary scheme and Blackthorn Medical Centre has chosen NOT to participate.  This means that we will continue to only register patients who live inside of our agreed practice boundary.

iWantGreatCare - Friends & Family Feedback

From 1st December 2014 we will be asking patients to provide us with feedback on our services.  We have chosen the iWantGreatCare website to help us do this.  Please see the Friends & Family Feedback page on our website.  This will give you more information about this and also gives you a link that will take you directly to the site to allow you to leave your feedback.  You will also be able to see recent feedback left by other patients.

New Triage Service for Same Day Appointment & Home Visit Requests

Triage is a way of improving and streamlining your access to our services.

We currently run a daily triage system for patients who request an urgent same day apppointment or home visit.

We have introduced this after a pilot scheme to help improve access to services.  This means that if you request an urgent same day appointment or home visit between 8.30 a.m. and 10.00 a.m., when demand for our services is at its highest, one of our clinicians will give your a brief call back.

After speaking to a GP you will decide together how best to address your needs that day:   you may be able to resolve the issues within the telephone call or you may be offered a face to face appointment with a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse or Health Care Assistant.

Some issues such as repeat Fit Notes and medication queries can easily be dealt with by telephone - freeing up appointments.

You will be asked by the receptionist for a brief outline of your problem - this will help the clinicians prioritise their telephone calls.  Please ensure that the receptionist has your up to date home/work/mobile telephone numbers.  Please let the receptionist know if it is impossible for you to be rung back.

Online Services - Appointments, Repeat Prescriptions & Medical Records

We are now able to offer our patients the facility to book routine appointments and order repeat prescriptions on line via our secure clinical system.  You will need to register with the Practice to be able to access this service via a secure portal.

Please click HERE to read more information about this service.

Please click HERE if you wish to register for this service.  Please complete and return the form to us and you will be issued with your logon & password details.  You will need to bring along photographic ID as part of the registration process.  This is required as part of the NHS Information Governance procedures.

Once you have registered you can access this service via this link

https://www.myvisiononline.co.uk/vpp/

Warning: Repeat Prescriptions

Please DO NOT order your repeat prescriptions via this website.  This is not secure.  Please register for Online Services which will allow you to order these via a secure portal & our Clinical System.  This meets Department of Health security requirements.

It is anticipated that from December 2014 you may be able to view parts of your medical record online.  You may be able to view your medications, allergies and adverse reactions.  This is an extension to the online appointments and repeat prescriptions service.

It is anticipated that from the end of March 2015 you may be able to access a small part of your medical records online - at present this will include your medication history and allergies

Appointments & Waiting Times

We are aware that sometimes our surgeries do not run on time and this causes frustration.

Please be aware that routine appointments are booked for 10 minutes. It may not be possible for us to deal with everything in one appointment and you may be asked to come back.

If you feel that your appointment will be longer please could you ask the receptionist for a double appointment.  This will help us to ensure that patients are seen on time.

Please telephone for routine appointments after 10.00 a.m. as this will help relieve the pressure on our telephone system during the peak time for telephone calls between 8.30 a.m. and 10.0 a.m. when we ask patients who require same day appointments to telephone.

Please telephone for your test results after 3.00 p.m. and this will relieve pressure on the telephone system at peak times and will also allow time for GPs to have seen and commented on results.

Thank you.

Dr. Gerhards, Dr. Lace, Dr. Renkema & Dr. Hanrath.
