 Blackthorn Medical Centre

2014/2015 has been a year of challenges:

Dr. Lace has been on maternity leave and we have had several locums covering her workload.  She has now returned to work on a part-time basis.  Dr. Alison Bentley will be remaining with us for a period of 6 months.

Dr. Tina McGavin has also return from her maternity leave.

We have done well with online service has have signed up nearly 1800 patients who are able to book appointments online and order repeat medication.  We are hoping to introduce a text messaging service as we look at ways to reduce the number of patients who do not turn up for their appointments.  This work will widen out over 2015/2016 as patients will be able to register for online service and will be able to view parts of their medical records online.

We have introduced a same day triage system and this has gone well.  Now if you ask for an appointment on the same day you will be triage by a clinican who will offer you an appointment if appropriate.  We will be carrying out a patient survey on this in 2015/2016 to get more formalised patient feedback.  Maureen Carlile an experienced Nurse Practitioner Prescriber with a background in minor illness and same day treatment joined our team in June to help us take our triage service forward and to help improve patient access to our services.

We have employed a new nurse this year Diane Igwe and a new HCA Jessica Hanrath who have helped to improved our access to nursing services for our patients.  We now also have nursing and phlebotomy appointments available from 7.30 a.m. on two days a week as part of our extended hours service provision.

We have registered for the iWant Great Care service to help us get patient feedback, good or bad, on our services.  Please see the Friends and Family section on the website or complete a form in the surgery.

Some of our more vulnerable patients now have Personal Care Plans which have been put together by our GPs.  This work continues.

All patients over 75 now have a named accountable GP and over the next year this will be rolled out to all patients.
