Your data, privacy and the Law.  How we use your medical records:

  • Blackthorn Medical Centre handles medical records according to the laws on data protection and confidentiality.


  • We share medical records with Health and Social Care professionals who are involved in providing you with care and treatment.  For instance when you are referred to the hospital we will include a list of your allergies, the medication you are on and your previous medical history so hospital staff can look after you safely.


  • Some of your data are automatically copied to the Shared Care Summary Record so that for instance A&E , the Out of Hours doctors and the Ambulance Service can see a summary of important information, allowing them to look after you safely.


  • Data about you are used to invite you for National Health Campaigns such as flu injections, breast screening, cervical cytology and screening for bowel cancer.


  • We share information when the law requires us to do so, for instance when we are inspected or reporting notifiable illnesses or safeguarding vulnerable people.


  • Your data are used to check the quality of care provided by us and by the NHS as a whole, to improve the care we give and for NHS payments. Where possible your data are anonymised.


  • We may also share medical records for medical research. Where possible your data are anonymised.
